  22.       There is a file on terminator called 25MEGADD.ARC which explains
  23.    how to exapnd a 1040ST to 2.5 megs by replacing the existing
  24.    256K chips with 1 megabit chips. Unfortunately, the arc file is
  25.    corrupted and I can only read the first paragraph. Is it as easy
  26.    as it says in the introduction? (Just unsolder the 256 k and
  27.    add sockets for 1 meg chips?)

  29.       Also, did anyone ever purchase a CPU case from tech-specialties?

  40. Yes, such a program exists!  Actually, it's a DA, but it does format
  41. completely in the background.  It is called Mystic Formatter, and it is by us,
  42. Double Click Software.  It is shareware.

  77. I've run across this with both versions of Goemini and it is one of the
  78. reasons I'm discouraged from using it.  Gemini seems to be dependant upon AMC
  79. GDOS to use the Gemini and TMail screen fonts correctly.  This wouldn't matter
  80. so much except for the fact that if you use the Gemini desktop, you can't
  81. use the G+Plus auto-install option with Gemini, to my knowledge.  This forces
  82. you to create a single assign.sys file that works with everything.  This
  83. is a real limitation because Opus is VERY picky about how the assign.sys file
  84. is set up.  To Stefan Eissing or any other knowledgeable Gemini/Venus experts:
  85. Is there any way to use G+Plus Install with Gemini?  Can you force Gemini to
  86. temporarily "let go" of GDOS before executing another GDOS program?  If not,
  87. is there a way then to force Gemini not to use GDOS at all?!?  This is the
  88. only reason I have to *not* use Gemini.  Are there any G+Plus experts that
  89. know of a work-around?  Please, someone, ANYONE - what's the trick?

  160. Perhaps now, with their high-end Mac II's and the new QuickDraw boards,
  161. not as much as before.  Apple's strengths have traditionally been in their
  162. software; their hardware hasn't warranted the extremely high margins they
  163. charge for their systems.  I think they'd have to be convinced that 3rd
  164. party Mac-clones would play for the low-end of their market, which I doubt
  165. it exclusively would.

  216.         Not much.  Some sales to be sure, but not enough to erode their profit
  217. levels.  After all, people have proven they don't mind paying Apple's prices
  218. by buying Macs in the first place.

  220.         What they have to gain is enormous.  They could double their installed
  221. base of Mac machines (making software production more viable) while having low
  222. cost Macs (from Atari) available without watering down the current Mac line.
  223.         In addition, the Mac OS would become the second leading OS, behind DOS
  224. and in front of UNIX (which Commodore and Atari will have to go to otherwise).
  225. OS/2 will not be viable for PC's.  (Arguments against that statement should be
  226. directed to comp.sys.msx :)
  227.  
  228.         Making a mistake like IBM did?  Clone wars to follow?  Of course not.
  229. They wouldn't be liscensing Mac computers, just the Mac OS.  The other machines
  230. would still be Amigas and STs.

  249. They would lose the ability to be incredibly pompus about their OS and
  250. to sue the hell out of anyone that even thought about imitating it.
  251. There would be massive layoffs at Apple because they'd have to fire
  252. most of their laywers, which seem to comprise about 1/2 the company.

  288. What would Apple have to gain?  What would Commodore or Atari have to
  289. gain?  Essentially nothing.  If Amiga and ST users had wanted Macs,
  290. they would've bought Macs.  I wanted something that multitasks, which
  291. the Mac doesn't (except in a very limited sense), and believe that
  292. very few Amiga users would trade AmigaDOS in for a Mac-like interface.
  293. Of course, most Mac users are also happy with their machines and
  294. wouldn't trade theirs for an Amiga.  To each his own.

  325. With Pinhead 1.5 installed, if I run Uniterm, then exit and try to use Jove,
  326. Jove gets confused and mixes in all sorts of garbage with the filename
  327. specified, and then complains that it can't find the mangled filename.
  328. Disabling pinhead manually with ctrl-shift-alt 0 before running Jove solves
  329. the problem until I run Uniterm again.  Putting "JOVE.TTP" in my pinhead.dat
  330. does NOT solve the program.  Any idea how I can avoid manually disabling
  331. Pinhead every time I run Jove after using Uniterm?

  385. I Just got my TOS 1.4 in the mail today, and succesfully installed it,
  386. but it did not come with ANYTHING.  just the 6 chips.  No sheet of
  387. paper, no nothing!  Is it supposed to come with anything?  If so what is
  388. on it and where can I get it?
